The volume of tourists visiting places of interest across the country during the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day on April 30 and International Labour Day on May 1 suffered a significant decline of 80% in comparison to the same period last year.

One of the main factors in the sharp drop can be attributed to many sites closing in the period leading up to the national holidays, resulting in only a few visitors travelling, with the vast majority of those being domestic tourists.

According to Lam Dong’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the number of tourists visiting Da Lat city over the respective national holidays totaled 25,000 arrivals, a vast drop of 86% on-year.

Elsewhere, the capacity of accommodation facilities in Sam Son beach in Thanh Hoa province reached 50%, with the figure largely made up of local tourists.

As hotels resumed operation in other coastal areas such as Nha Trang city in Khanh Hoa province, the booking rate fell to between 10% and 20%.

Similar drops were also seen in mountainous areas such as Sapa in Lao Cai province, with the number of arrivals being 12,800, equal to 15.5% of the figure seen during the same period last year.

In a bid to ensure the safety of holidaymakers, the local tourism department has requested that relevant agencies continue to implement the Prime Minister’s directives with regard to preventive measures.

This includes fully-equipping staff with protective gear, checking the temperature of arrivals, wearing face masks, and maintaining physical distance.
