Buon Ma Thuot is a catholic stronghold, and Sac Tu Khai Doan is one of the few Buddhist pagodas to be found in the city.

Standing in the city center,Khai Doan pagoda is an architectural combination between the Ruong house in Hue and the Ede’s long house. The sanctum has the area of 320meters square. In the centre is a bronze statue of Buddist Thich Ca which is 110 centimeters high. On the right sanctum is a brozen bell, 115 centimeters and 380 kilos, casted in December 1954, the Year of the Snake.
Located on Phan Boi Chau Street, Buon Ma Thuot City, Khai Doan pagoda was built in 1951.
It is the last pagoda in Vietnam bestowed by royal decree of the feudal regime. Khai Doan is joined by the name of the King Khai Dinh and his wife called the Queen Mother Doan Huy.
Since 2012, the pagoda has been being rebuilt and creating more new works.
