On the morning of October 6th, Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Association launched the “Competition of Vietnam’s specialty coffee quality 2019” and the training course on processing and tasting specialty coffee. Attending the launching ceremony were the leaders of Western Highlands Agro-Forestry Scientific and Technical Institute (WASI), coffee productions enterprises inside and outside the province, coffee experts.

At the launching ceremony, leaders of the Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Association passed the regulations of the Vietnam Amazing Cup 2019, Vietnam’s specialty coffee. Specifically, the contest will be applied to Robusta or Arabica coffee beans. Participants will be individuals or organizations that own farms or cooperate with farmers producing and processing specialty coffee in the territory of Vietnam (including foreign enterprises). Each product must meet the standards of the sample and enclosed its documents including the registration of the competition, the product demonstration, and photos of products.

Regarding the process, procedures and criteria for evaluating the samples submitted to the competition, the Organizing Committee will evaluate the quality of coffee beans through tasting. All samples will be encoded and submitted to members of the jury.

After launching the competition, units have started to register and pay the participation fee before December 15th, 2018. By January 15th, 2019, the Organizing Committee will collect all information and support the preparations. In February, 2019, the samples will be sealed and evaluated common mistakes. The qualifying round will take place from February 28th, 2019 – March 02nd, 2019. The final round will take place from March 7th, 2019 to March 9th, 2019. Award ceremony will be organized on March 9th, 2019.
The competition aims to identify and honor batches of coffee beans and coffee production enterprises that meet the standards of specialty coffee; to introduce the specialty coffee products of Vietnam to international and domestic consumers and roasters; to connect and commercialize specialty coffee products. This is to increase the value of specialty coffee in Vietnam, creating motivation for coffee growers interested in upgrading quality.
