To sum up 10 years of constructing and developing Buon Ma Thuot City into primary urban in the Central Highlands

On March 28, Dak Lak Provincial Party Committee in coordination with the Commission for Economic Affairs held a national-level Workshop on evaluating the results of implementing the Conclusion No.60-KL/TW on November 27th, 2009 of the Politburo on building and developing Buon Ma Thuot City into a primary urban in the Central Highlands in the period of 2010-2020 and the strategy of building and developing Buon Ma Thuot city to become a primary urban in the Central Highlands by 2030 with a vision to 2045.

At the Workshop

The Workshop had the participation of Mr. Nguyen Van Binh – Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Commission for Economic Affairs; Senior Lieutenant-General Nguyen Phuong Nam – Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army; Y Thanh Ha Nie Kdam – Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Centrally-run Businesses Bloc and representatives of Ministries, central agencies.

For leaders of Dak Lak province, the Workshop was attended by Mr. Eban Y Phu – Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Pham Minh Tan – Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Tran Quoc Cuong – Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Y Bier Nie – Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Council; Mr. Pham Ngoc Nghi – Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee; leaders of People’s Council, People’s Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and other departments, agencies, unions and localities in the province.

After 10 years of implementing the Conclusion No. 60-KL/TW, Buon Ma Thuot City has made significant progress in the urban construction and development. The city’s socio-economic situation has shown a good development, basically meeting the set targets. Specifically, total mobilized investment capital of the entire society reached VND 61,566 billion; economic growth is quite good with an average annual rate of 9.38%, 2018 alone, the total value of products in the province reached VND18,852 billion, increasing by 2.04 times compared to 2010; industry – construction, trade – services play a key role in economic development and transmission towards progress; Per capita income is significantly improved, by the end of 2018, reaching VND78 million/person/year, increasing 3.17 times compared to 2009.

Besides, urban and land planning and management are also strengthened. Since 2010, the urban areas have been covered with the urban subdivision planning of 9,322 hectares, accounting for 91.82%, an increase of 2.74 times compared to the period before 2010. The urban transport infrastructure is relatively synchronous, initially forming a primary urban in the Central Highlands. Culture, social security is ensured; security – defense and social safety are maintained; the material and spiritual life of local people has improved.

Promoting the achievements, some goals were laid out at the workshop with a focus on issues: By 2030, striving to build Buon Ma Thuot city into a primary urban of the Central Highlands. In particular, the annual average growth rate of products in the province reached over 13.5%; Per capita income reached 85 VND million/person/year; the annual increase of the State budget revenue is more than 12%; total social investment capital reached VND 395,000; the urban is developed in the direction of green growth, improving the capacity of resisting climate change response, striving to achieve a minimum of 15m2/person of urban green space … With a vision to 2045, Buon Ma Thuot shall strive to become a centrally-run city.

Speaking at the Workshop, Mr. Nguyen Van Binh – Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Commission for Economic Affairs said that basically, Buon Ma Thuot City has been invested and developed in line with the direction of the Conclusion No.60-KL/TW. However, there are still some contents that have not satisfied the targets and requirements during the implementation process. Therefore, Mr. Nguyen Van Binh suggested the locality focusing on reviewing and re-evaluating the city’s potentials and advantages to continue to take effective solutions for sustainable and long-term development, ensuring the maximum benefits for Dak Lak in particular and the Central Highlands region in general; attaching importance to investment in areas that bring high efficiency and spread out and make use of human resources; continue to study and promulgate mechanisms and policies synchronously, have a breakthrough aiming at strongly attract investment resources; ensuring the construction of Buon Ma Thuot City including economic development in harmony with preservation of the unique traditions and cultures of ethnic minorities in the Central Highlands …
