Local wonder receives World Heritage Site recognition twice

Ha Long Bay continues to represent a highly popular travel destination in the northern province of Quang Ninh and has therefore been recognised twice as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
World Heritage Sites are designated by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), for locations having cultural, historical, scientific, or other forms of significance. Ha Long Bay was originally recognised as a World Natural Heritage by UNESCO back in 1994 and was later re-recognised for the second time in 2000. Upon paying a visit to the site, tourists seem to get lost in a fantasy world. (Photo: Tran Quy)
Along with sites such as Nha Trang Bay and Lang Co Bay, Ha Long Bay represents one of the 29 “paradise” bays listed as part of the “World’s Most Beautiful Bays Clubs – World Bays” in 2003. (Photo: Nguyen Tuan)
It features rare beautiful landscapes and is home to many famous sightseeing spots such as Thien Cung Cave, Hon Trong Mai, and Sung Sot Cave, becoming an attractive destination for both local and foreign tourists. (Photo: Nguyen Tuan)
Ha Long Bay covers an enormous area in northern Vietnam of approximately 1,553 square kilometres and contains an incredible 1,969 islets in total.
The name Ha Long means “descending dragon” and the site is regarded as a gift of nature as well as being a key heritage site for humanity.
