The Vietnamese tourism industry has gradually regained its growth momentum as the sector has restored both international and domestic tourism activities, said Nguyen Trung Khanh, director general of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT).

Khanh made the statement at the National Forum on Tourism which aims to devise solutions which can contribute to restoring and developing the Vietnamese tourism industry.

According to statistics compiled by the VNAT, a total of 978 international tourists have arrived in the country through the “vaccine passports” scheme since November 29, while the number of domestic tourists in November also reached 2.5 million.

Throughout the initial 11 months of the year, the number of domestic tourists is anticipated to have reached 34.75 million arrivals.

Destinations such as Khanh Hoa, Da Nang, and Phu Quoc are expected to receive approximately 9,400, 11,500, and 3,500 international visitors this year, respectively.

During the the forum, Vu The Binh, vice chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association (VTA), said the country’s reopening to welcome international visitors has created a new turning point for the tourism industry, adding that local businesses are duly required to make thorough preparations in order to adapt to the new normal state.

Nguyen Duc Anh, chairman of Vietnam MICE Club under the VTA, underscored the importance of the combination of technology, sports, and tourism, which will bring positive effects for businesses as they strive to make breakthroughs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Most notably, localities are expected to make efforts to boost trade promotion activities by utilising technology platforms, sports tours, and tournaments that have attracted the participation of tens of thousands of visitors.

Nguyen Cong Hoan, general director of Flamingo Redtours Company, has also proposed a number of solutions which can help the sector adapt tourism activities in the new normal state.

The tourism industry is required to give priority to ensuring safety for tourists, offering tourism services in a flexible manner, promoting the initiative of customers, and restructuring personnel for travel firms, Hoan said.
